Lady Gaga's - "The Dead Dance" Will Bring You Back To Life

Little Monsters can rejoice! Lady Gaga has released her brand new song "The Dead Dance" in honour of Wednesday season 2, part 2. This comes after the success of "Bloody Mary" from her album Born This Way after a fan edit of Wednesday dancing to the song from season 1 went viral, thus causing "Bloody Mary" to become the 6th single from the album 11 years after its release. If that fan edit wasn't made, we wouldn't be sitting here listening to "The Dead Dance" today.

If you know me really well, you'll know I'm one of Gaga's most loyal and hardcore fans. Ive witnessed the release of every single and album since her debut with "Just Dance" in 2008. If you know me even better you'll know that Tim Burton is also my all time favourite director and writer, almost wearing out my The Nightmare Before Christmas & James and the Giant Peach VHS's as a kid. Now as a 28 year old, I'm so happy and ecstatic to be living in a world where both Lady Gaga and Tim Burton are working together.
The song produced by Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Gaga herself opens with an eerie etherial bass, and electric synth choir, before transitioning into a deeper space filling bass complimented by electro glitches, and clicks to make up the percussion, that slowly build up into the chorus. The chorus smashes in with a fun jumpy bass reminiscence of the 70's and 80's disco era, complimented by muted guitar strums and a simple drum track that brings it all together. The song truly fits into her latest album, MAYHEM's, theme, coinciding perfectly amongst tracks such as, "Zombieboy", "Kill For Love" & "Shadow of a Man".

"You stole my thoughts before I dreamed them, and you killed my queen with just one pawn... This goodbye wont make me cry"
The lyrics are describe by Lady Gaga to have been inspired by an ex boyfriend. The song goes over Lady Gaga dating someone who is making her decisions for her, taking away her creativity, and stealing her ideas before she can even produce them herself. Lady Gaga in the music video is made up to look like a doll, almost representing that she is a pawn that keeps being played with. Gaga during the chorus sings "I'll keep dancin' until I'm dead", from my personal perspective I see this as despite everything happening, she will continue to dance and get lost in the music, as music is what keeps her alive and going.
"Cuz when you killed me inside, that's when I came alive. Yeah, the music's gonna bring me back from death. You've created a creature of the night. Now I'm haunting your air, your soul, your eyes."
This could easily be a representation of how far Gaga has come in the 17 years she's been in the music industry. Gaga is now "haunting" the soul of her ex as she can be seen virtually everywhere, especially this deep into her career. Lady Gaga this year alone broke record for most attendee's at a stand alone concert during her promo tour for MAYHEM, having 2.5 million people come watch her performance on Copacabana beach in Brazil. Lady Gaga has pulled herself from the grave, become alive again, and is living through the power of her music and her own creativity.
This may be biased from me being a huge Little Monster, but Gaga has delivered another 10/10 song. You can stream the song below on Apple Music & Spotify, and the music video for "The Dead Dance" directed by Tim Burton is now out on YouTube. On top of that Lady Gaga has also released MAYHEM's bonus tracks "Kill For Love" & "Can't Stop The High" on streaming as well.
